“Dabbles in works of art?”
Frida Kahlo is one of the most notable painters of our time.
Born in Coyocoán, Mexico City, Mexico, her paintings have been globally recognized and celebrated for their strong and uncompromising depiction of the appearance and experience of women. She married fellow artist, Diego Rivera in 1929.

In a current exhibit at The Detroit Institute of Arts, which takes an in-depth look at Kahlo's pivotal time in Detroit, the curators included an early article about the artist:

I repeat: "Wife of the Master Mural Painter Gleefully Dabbles in Works of Art"
Kahlo's time in Detroit was extremely important developmentally for her art - On July 4th, 1932, Frida suffered a miscarriage in the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, which led to a series of iconic self portraits. Though Kahlo wasn't world renowned yet, I bet the newspaper feels pretty silly about this headline now.

Not surprisingly, in the article, Kahlo has an amazing response: "Of course he [Diego] does pretty well for a little boy, but it is I who am the big artist."
